David Scott – Senior Director, Tepnel Pharma Services
Dave is an experienced and time served member of the pharma services with a 25 years career spanning a journey from the bench to the boardroom. With a proven track record of general management and strategic thinking, Dave has led the growth and development of Tepnel Pharma Services both as an SME and as a subsidiary of a large global US healthcare and diagnostics company.
Dave understands the complexities of the pharma services marketplace and is a natural strategic thinker and leader. He is passionate about driving a company ethos which focusses on the needs of the stakeholder both from within his own organisation and also from the customer’s perspective. Dave believes that people matter and that it is his people who make the business and the customer experience. Dave is committed to the health and prosperity of the community within which he has worked and as such is a member of the Life Sciences Advisory Board of Scotland and the industry chair of the Scottish Pharma Services Steering Group.
Dr Vikki Renwick – Director, Tepnel Pharma Services
Vikki has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 15 years. With a career starting in academic research using Lab-on-a-Chip principals, Vikki was subsequently involved in a spin out venture centred on the resultant IP. Vikki’s awareness and capabilities in commercial services resulted in a shift to business development revolving around pharma services, engaging in consultative selling and customer satisfaction. Vikki has driven the implementation of the internal growth and development of Tepnel Pharma Services through culture, coaching and mentoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
As the General Manager, responsible for Tepnel’s cGMP analytical services, Vikki is focused on the management and delivery of multi-disciplinary projects. Vikki is committed to the delivery of systems and processes that maximise the customer experience whilst delivering high quality satisfaction to all stakeholders. Vikki is the company advocate for adopting lean principles and pro-actively supporting the Pharmaceutical Quality System. Vikki is a strong and compassionate leader, instilling a company ethos centred on the people behind the service, enhancing staff engagement through the development of site wide training programmes and initiatives, work force skills development and career progression with focus on staff retention.
Vikki is involved with Skills Development Scotland and a member of Scottish Life Science Association.
Jim Hillier – Director of Scientific Operations, Tepnel Pharma Services
Jim has over 30 years of experience in the practical application of analytical chemistry gained in oil exploration and 25 years in contract research and development of analytical methods for the pharmaceutical industry. Jim is a recognised expert in the application of chromatography techniques, but is also accomplished in a wide array of techniques applied in toxicology, clinical chemistry and biomanufacturing quality control. Jim is passionate about the application of good science to operational work practices and has written articles in peer reviewed industry publications. He has a wide and comprehensive knowledge of general science and has used this to train and mentor fellow scientists to perform in the roles given to them.
He has shown himself to be an experienced leader with a good management, scientific and compliance background and experience in the contract research and pharma industries. He has proven technical expertise in the development and use of bioanalytical testing techniques for small and large molecules and has applied this knowledge in CMC analytical techniques focusing in the bio-manufacturing industry. Jim’s current interest is in: translational medicine, bioanalysis (large and small molecule) manufactured biologics and biosimilars. Jim is currently the company representative in the European Bioanalytical Forum and also the Global CRO Council organisations.
Dr Paul Docherty – Regional Sales Manager, Tepnel Pharma Services
Paul has been working for and with pharma/biotech companies since completing his post-doctoral studies in 1999. An experienced scientist that has worked in business development for more than 15 years, he leads a team of business development staff and works closely with a wider scientific team to grow Tepnel’s business and help, as part of the senior management team, to make strategic decisions.
Paul’s experiences, on both the pharma and pharma services side of the bench have been critical to his ethos. It has led him to an in depth understanding of the relationships between the contract provider and acceptor that enables him to engage and empathise with Tepnel’s customer base, whether for small transactional business or strategic partnerships. This has led to a strong belief that the relationship with the customer is key, communication is critical and he pushes all staff to take ownership of customer’s projects so that Tepnel works as an extension of the customer’s labs – not in place of them. Though Paul works out of both the Livingston and Manchester facility, he lives near Cambridge and plays an active role in life science organisations across all three locations.
Jane Kelly – Molecular Genetic Services Operations Manager, Tepnel Pharma Services
Jane is an enthusiastic, versatile and multi-skilled manager with over 22 years’ experience within the academic, pharmaceutical and commercial arenas. She has a proven track record of leading, motivating and developing a growing team of scientists. Jane understands the importance of engaging with people and believes that all members of the team have a voice that should be heard. Jane is open and approachable and is keen to acknowledge the contributions of all team members holding them accountable for what they commit to.
Jane leads the team to provide high levels of customer service which aim to exceed the expectations of her customers. She project manages a constantly changing portfolio of studies and projects ensuring efficient, on budget, and timely delivery of data, reports and customer follow up. In addition, she participates in strategic review and development of the biomarkers service provision.
Dr Bob Holt – Molecular Genetic Services Manager, Tepnel Pharma Services
Bob has over 20 years’ experience of genomics research and has spent the last 10 years working in biomarker based contract research. Bob’s current focus is on personalised medicine and the development of companion diagnostic products for a wide range of clients.
Bob believes that personalised medicine will transform the healthcare market and have a fundamental impact on patient health. The use of genomic technologies in combination with novel therapeutics will allow patients to receive the right drug, at the right dose, at the right time.
Bob has considerable experience of diagnostic product development, from early biomarker discovery through to the development of diagnostic products. Bob has an undergraduate degree from the University of Dundee and a PhD from the University of Liverpool. Additionally, Bob has authored several key biomarker publications in peer-reviewed journals as is an inventor on a number of biomarker patents.
Andrew McCallum – Senior Manager, Quality, Tepnel Pharma Services
Andy has spent the last 30 years working in the field of pharma services. Educated in chemistry at Napier University in Edinburgh, and following with Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Chartered Chemist status, Andy began initially as an analytical chemist subsequently moving into the field of quality assurance where he has worked for the last 20 years. He has supported the development of Tepnel Pharma Services throughout its journey as it has grown and thrived within the highly regulated pharma services market place.
As Senior Manager, Quality, Andy has been involved with GXP regulatory compliance throughout his career and is committed to these standards and their focus on safe patient outcomes. He has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the Tepnel Pharmaceutical Quality System. Andy leads the Tepnel quality team and has ensured compliance both with Tepnel procedures and with ever evolving regulatory requirements is paramount. He has a long and successful experience with regulatory inspections from the MHRA and FDA and believes that the success of the company must be forged on a sound compliance basis to the benefit of all stakeholders.
